Christmas Eve Accident Claims Two on Lira-Apala Road

Two people have reportedly died in a fatal accident that happened on Dec 24th, 2023 at around 13:00 hours.

This unfortunate incident happened in Akor village along Lira-Apala road.

North Kyoga Police Region spokesperson SP. Jimmy Patrick Okema has identified the deceased as Joshua Ogwal aged 34 yrs old and Penina Acen aged 12 yrs old who are all residents of Alengo Bir cell, Amuca ward, Lira-City West Division.

Preliminary findings indicate that Motor Vehicle Reg No UBF 306D while coming from Apala side heading towards Lira Town lost control while overtaking another motor vehicle in a terrible speed lost control and knocked a motorcycle Reg UEW 758R which was on the opposite direction, killing the rider one Joshua Ogwal instantly and a juvenile passenger identified as Penina Acen who died on arrival later at Lira Regional Referral Hospital.

"The driver however immediately fled the scene after the accident", Okema noted.

According to SP. Okema, police was notified and the scene visited by traffic officers from Lira-City Central Police Station.

"Sketch plan have been drawn and some statements recorded from eye witnesses", added Okema.

Okema also confirmed that the deceased have been conveyed to the mortuary at Lira regional referral hospital pending postmortem while both the motor vehicle and motorcycle have been taken to the station pending IOV inspection.

"This is yet another unfortunate incident, we advised the driver to report himself to any nearest police station for statement recording to answer charges against him. But also warn members of the public to be extra careful while on the road, they should observe traffic regulations.
